Dr. Strangelove

I decided awhile ago that this old fave would be my last watch of the year.

It is as funny as ever, each actor was just as funny as the next, although I read that Kubrick tricked George C. Scott into acting as outrageously as he did (he was asked to practice before the takes, not knowing Kubrick had the cameras running).

Peter Sellers ad-libbed a lot, and his Dr. Strangelove accent was apparently influenced by the photographer Weegee who was working as a special photographic effects consultant on the film.

Peter Sellers was originally going to do four roles instead of the three he ended up doing, he was supposed to do Slim Picken’s role as well, but he wasn’t able to do it and Slim got the part. It is hard to imagine anyone else in the role now, Slim was one of the highlights. The read about Slim Pickens on Wikipedia is interesting, and funny, quite a chap was he.

So that is my year of film watching done, 207 films in all. I doubt I will break that record, but I will have fun trying.

Casino Royale

Very, very unfunny spoof of the Bond movies that was so bad I stopped it half way through. I didn’t laugh once and was just wondering if anyone making this movie at the time knew it was going to be crap. Peter Sellers was in it but there was nothing he could do to save it. David Niven, Woody Allen and Ursula Andress were also it, bit of a blotch on their records.
