This is a Japanese pressing I bought cheaps at a recycle shop that has since gone out of business. Classic disco sounds of course.
It was released in 1976 and was priced at 600 yen back in the day which is about 1000 yen in today’s money, a bit pricey considering. Like most second-hand vinyl here it is in excellent condition. The red star thing on the cover says “Disco hits”!
The name Boney M was chosen by the dude who created the group, a German fellow by the name of Frank Fabian, who also created Milli Vanilli. From Wikipedia…
“I turned on the TV one day and it was the end of a detective series. I just caught the credits and it said Boney. Nice name, I thought – Boney, Boney, Boney… Boney M. Boney, Boney, Boney M. Nice sound. Simple.”
The character name in the Australian TV series was named “Detective Inspector Bonaparte (Boney)”.
Boney M are still around, but not in the original form.
