First records of the year

Julee Cruise: Floating into the Night – Cruise’s first record, which is pretty much a David Lynch/Angelo Badalamenti production, with Lynch writing the lyrics and Angelo doing the music.

Van Morrison: Astral Weeks – Another cheap as chups purchase from The Warehouse, remastered with bonus tracks this is Van’s first proper record, and aces it is too.

Bruce Springsteen: Darkness on the Edge of Town – Album number four from Bruce, released in 1978, did not feature any hit singles but Badlands is probably the most well known tune. Good stuff all round. I got this in an excellent coffee shop/record store in Newtown, Wellington NZ.

Rod Stewart: Smiler – Solo album number 5 from the Rod, and a stinker. I got this for the gatefold photo, everyone looks drunk! Elton John, Macca, Ronnie Wood all feature on the record. Rod even does a cover of ‘You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman’ where ‘Woman’ is switched to ‘Man’. Clever Rod.

Album Count 2017: 4
