Into the Inferno

Werner Herzog teams up with his volcanologist mate, Clive, to bring us this film about volcanoes. But it’s a Herzog doco so we also get to see rituals, North Korea, weird churches, strange people, early man and volcanoes. There is some mesmerising footage, a few volcanoes from around the world featured but it’s the ones (only three!) where you can look directly into the bubbling magma pit which are amazing. And hearing Herzog say stuff like ‘magma’ in his accent is certainly worth the price of admission alone. You can certainly see why people are fascinated with these fiery huge mountains.

This was made last year, Herzog also made a thriller about volcanoes called Salt and Fire, but it’s pants apparently.
