I’ve only snippets of this 1997 movie, never the whole thing in one go (as far as I remember), and tops it is too, quite similar to Paul Thomas Anderson’s other films, it certainly chugs along at a nice clip. Anderson enjoys the Scorcese-ish long takes. Quite a few well-known actors appear, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour-Hoffman, Marky Mark of course, William H Macy and the curly haired guy he is in Will Ferrell films these days. As well as Burt Reynolds, who hated making this and once said he was pissed at his agent for even talking him into doing the role, he got a few awards out it so can’t complain really.
