High-Rise

This is based on JG Ballards novel and is very wiggy. Directed by Ben Wheatley, who made the great Sightseers, it’s a great mash-up of 70s and futurists. Looks absolutely amazing so well done to the cinematographer.  The book would probably be a great read, it’s about a high-rise where the occupants (the richer ones at the top) become disinterested in the outside world and gradually the residents descend into chaos.

Clint Mansell of PWEI fame did the soundtrack, he’s quite the soundtrack guy these days. Has a brilliant cover of Abba’s SOS by Portishead, which plays over a very creepy moment in the film.

Date watched: January 18th
Score: 8/10
