They Who Dare

I had no reason for watching this except that it was about World War II, which is my next film-watching theme.

Dirk Bogarde and a very young Denholm Elliot star in this true story of an attack by commandos on two Luftwaffe airfields on the island of Rhodes in Greece.

The story followed the actual events reasonably well, although there was a side-story about a lack of water thrown in for dramatic effect, as well as problems with four Greeks involved in the mission. The actual mission, after reading about it, was good reading, and while the actual attack was reasonably successful only two commandos made it back.

This is not essential watching, but for a bit of war history it is worth it.
