Just Kids by Patti Smith

Judging by Patti’s accounts of her life in NYC in the 70s it was one exciting/dangerous happening place. This is the story of her and Robert Mapplethorpe finding their way in life, way before both of them became well known. The bulk of the book is their time living in the famous Chelsea Hotel, along with other famous misfits of the time. And lots of famous people passed through that hotel, Warhol, Hendrix, Ginsberg, Burroughs and loads more I can’t even remember, Ginsberg came onto Patti thinking she was a rent boy at one stage. Her and Robert were lovers until Robert finally acknowledged his homosexuality, they were soulmates for life though.

A most excellent read.
