The Strange Love of Martha Ivers

I had this in my YouTube “Watch later” list for a while, I put it there because of Barbara Stanwyck, and I finally watched it last night. I should have watched it a lot soon as it is film noir gold.

It is a crime story mixed in with romance, pretty much normal for a 1940’s film noir. The acting was superb, along with the script and production. Barbara Stanwyck was fabs as usual, Kirk Douglas was Kirk Douglas (but a lot younger, 30 years old to be exact, and this was his debut film), and the other main actors who I had never seen before were both fabs. It was all fabs. Blake Edwards had a small part as a sailor.

Films these days are very well made, but these older films really stand up to the test of time, and more often than not are better than most of the stuff we get these days. Give a me a Kirk Douglas over a Tom Cruiser any day.

Date watched: November 5th
Score: 9/10
Film count 2016: 172
