Right, I’m going to try and get up-to-date with my music, starting with some CDs:
Kate Bush: The Whole Story – Couldn’t pass up some Kate!
Bis: The New Transistor Heroes – These guys and one girl are a Polysics/Ash/Devo/punky band. And are loud and fun. The best track is the hidden track at the end which sounds nothing like the rest of the record, almost sounds like a different band in fact.
PJ Harvey: The Hope Demolition Project – I’m still not sure what the hope demo project actually is about but there are some top tunes in here. According to her website: ‘The album was recorded last year in residency at London’s Somerset House. The exhibition, entitled ‘Recording in Progress’ saw Harvey, her band, producers Flood and John Parish, and engineers working within a purpose-built recording studio behind one-way glass, observed throughout by public audiences.’
She’s touring here (and NZ), would be great to see her again, she is probably in my top 5 best live performers list.
The Verve: Forth – Comeback of sorts for these skinny English chaps, and pretty good it is too. Pity they don’t get along as more records from them would be aces.
Wall of Sound: The Very Best of Phil Spector 1961 – 1966 – This murderer did make some top music.
Triple J’s Hottest 100 Vol 22 – Some more popular tunes from Australia’s best radio station (there is now a digital only station called Double J which is even better, they play more alternative stuff from my youth).
Elvis Presley: If I Can Dream – An orchestra cash-in job here, but a classy one. If Elvis was alive (which he probably is, was Gracelands gardener last I heard) he would approve of this. I imagined he approved of everything really as his quality control was a bit sub-par.
Album Count 2016: 88
