This is pretty much what you would expect of a disaster film these days.
All of the usual tropes are there, along with great CGI, and 101 ways to die in an earthquake. My fave death was a panicking woman who ignored the heroin’s advice to go up to the roof of the building, instead she ran through a door into the stairwell and seconds later a large aftershock occurred, the heroin opens the door to open air; the whole side of the building had collapsed. That’s what you get when you panic and don’t listen to people who are not panicking and know what they are talking about.
The Rock is in this, and there was comedy relief in the form of two British brothers.
Films about major city-destroying events are pure fun, who doesn’t like to see civilisation destroyed by nature? Unfortunately nature is slowly destroying civilisation at the moment, which does not make for a good film plot.
There is a sequel coming and is about the Ring of Fire. That should be spectacular!
