Charlotte Gray

I had this book on the shelf for a while, by that Sebastian Faulks guy, I have read a few of his books now. Was looking forward to this so I could watch the movie after finishing the book (it appears the movie is crappers, I’ll watch it anyway), took me a while to get through this, it kind of took a while to get going and felt a little disjointed. Set during WW2, it follows Charlotte, a Scottish lass doing undercover work in France for the English. I must read up about occupied France at the time, sounds quite interesting what was happening with the government at the time, and what the Germans were doing.

One chapter towards the end of the book describes in detail people going to the gas chambers in Poland, it was harrowing to read, I had to stop for a bit after reading it. But then elsewhere in the book is a sex scene which won the annual ‘Bad Sex in Fiction’ award.

2016 read number: 1
