I have amassed a few CDs over the last few weeks.
The Murky World of Barry Adamson – Barry Adamson was in Magazine, Visage, The Birthday Party, and more, so is a rather accomplished and busy chap. This album of his is rather good and quite varied. Good track here.
Armchair Apocrypha – This is an album by Andrew Bird, a guy I discovered on 8Tracks. Good listening. Here is the first track
The Hampton Concert – I found this live Elvis album cheap at Book Off. It has a really cheap looking cover, and is made by a record label called Black Panther which I found out is a bootleg label. The sound quality is OK but in mono. Elvis sure was the live performer, slick and always thanking the audience very much. It would have been great to see him live.
Favourite Worst Nightmare – I have a few other Arctic Monkeys releases and they are pretty good. But this one is disappointing, nothing new and quite dull. It gets good reviews online though.
It’s Summer – A fave Japanese band of mine is the ↑THE HIGH-LOWS↓, a punky band that has been around for quite some time. This is a single and features a song used in a drink commercial. Here they are playing “It’s Summer” live. The guitarist guy always wears a bandana, that is his thing. Japanese entertainers almost always have their thing. Take this very famous chat show host, he always wears those glasses, and it is very rare to see him without them. Or this guy who always looks like this, even when he is on Japanese chat shows, and no one bats an eyelid.
Destroy Erase Improve – This is a metal album by a band called Meshuggah, a Swedish band. Nothing special, but it is OK.
We Four – This is a best of album from a band called The Ink Spots who were popular in the 1930’s and 1940’s. Good old-timey stuff. Here is a song called “Maybe”.
The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn – Another band I discovered on 8Tracks is CocoRosie. Eclectic stuff, quite good I suppose. Here is a track which sounds very much like Björk.
Megalithic Symphony – I had been wanting to get something by AWOLNATION, so got this. Pretty standard stuff, but it has the track “Sail” which is very familiar if you watch cat videos on YouTube.
Axis: Bold as Love – This is Jimi Hendrix‘s second album. Good stuff of course.
Wild Like Children – Another 8Tracks discovery. This is by Tilly and the Wall. Not too bad, but the track I listened to on 8Tracks was on another album, and was better. Here is a track from this album.
Ella Fitzgerald Collection – I was listening to a jazz collection on 8Tracks and one song was by Ella Fitzgerald, and so I decided I needed to buy some Ella. I found this 130 song compilation on Amazon as a download. Good stuff. Old timey stuff is dang good.
