Some more CDs

I still have a few CDs to get through before the end of the year, so lets try and get them up here:

Scott Joplin: Original Ragtime – Time to get out the booze from behind the bar and listen to tunes such as: Elite Sincopations, Paragon Rag, Pineapple Rag, Maple Leaf Rag, Stoptime Rag, Reflection Rag and loads more… rags.

The Zutons: You Can Do Anything – Shouty type singing from The Zutons (bad band name alert!), which ain’t too bad, it’s niosy so that’s good.

MC 900 Ft. Jesus: One Step Ahead Of The Spider – Brilliant op-shop find, I remember this vaguely at the time of release, but never really got into it back then. But it’s great, one tune is over 11 minutes long. This is his last album, and contains his most well known tune ‘If I Only Had a Brain’ (Spike Jones music video below), MC 900 ft. Jesus retired from the music industry and now works in a large bookstore, but DJs. He’s almost 60!

Rokia Traoré: Tchamantche – Rokia is a Malian singer/songwriter, I’ve no idea what she’s singing about as she’s singing Malian (obviously), but it’s all very nice stuff, she’s a top guitarist too. She was recently on the jury at the Cannes Film Festival.

AnotherLateNight: Groove Armada – I do love these LateNight compilations, but this one being curated by dance act Groove Armada there is not that much on here I’m into, but Roy Ayers, Al Green, Grace Jones (unfortunately an instrumental), Shuggie Otis (tops!) and Aretha Franklin redeem it somewhat.

Ultra-Lounge, Vol. 15: Wild Cool & Swingin – This has the brillo 5 Months, 2 Weeks, 2 Days by Louis Prima which is by far the toppest tune on here. There are some other good tunes to be had.

Mojo: Music is Love! – This is pretty good, loads of bands covering tunes, starts off with the Edgar Broughton Band (never heard of them) doing Apache. Willie Nelson doing Move It On Over, Robyn Hithcock doing Like a Rolling Stone, Minnie Riperton doing Light My Fire, Al Green doing Want To hold Your Hand and the great Laibach doing Sympathy For The Devil among others.

Album count 2015: 78
