A Soldier’s Story

This is a 1984 film set in 1944 about an African American army captain sent to an army base in the deep south of the U.S.A. to investigate the murder of an African American sergeant.

Quite good stuff too. It was adapted from a stage play, and three actors from the play, including Denzel Washington, were in this.

The segregation of blacks and whites in America was such a terrible thing, and not even the army was exempt. The story in this film was as much about segregation as it was about a murder investigation.

All round good stuff, but some may find it slow.
