2014 CDs

I’m on a roll:

Lovebox Weekender – Lovebox is a music festival held in Victoria Park in London, we went one year (it was close to where we lived – bonus!), we only went for one day and saw the great Grace Jones, she was ace. Peaches and Hot Chip also played. The best fun was just wandering around in the sun checking everyone out in their crazy outfits. This is a two disc CD of various bands who have played over the years, mainly electronical-ish stuff like Mark Ronson, Groove Armada and a bunch of stuff I’ve not heard of before. Curtis Mayfield is on here too, would have been great to see him! No Grace Jones on here unfortunately.
Yusaf: Roadsinger – Yusuf, AKA Steven Demetre Georgiou, AKA Cat Stevens chucked it all in back in 1977, selling his guitars devoted himself to educational and philanthropic causes in the Muslim community. Go him! This is his second ‘comeback’ record. I lost interest in this once he got some children singing backup…
They Might Be Giants: First Album Live – A free download of TMBG debut, and still my favourite records. They are funny to see live, cracking jokes and chatting with the audience.
Spiderbait: Greatest Hits – Not sure if these were actual bona-fide radio hits but they’re good all the same. Black Betty is great.
Morcheeba: Charango – I had this record years ago, found it in an op shop for $1, good for washing the dishes too. Except we have a dishwasher.
Mercury Rev: All is Dream – I use to own this years back but probably sold it for some reason, found it for a dollar, bargain! I saw these guys live, his singing was like on the record, pretty good. The bottle of red wine he was drinking must have helped.
LL Cool J: Phenomenon – Got this at an op-shop, worth it for the title track.
Harvey Danger: Where Have ALl the Merrymakers Gone? – Mainly famous for the (excellent) tune Flagpole Sitta these guys were from Seattle, released three albums over 15 years then split up. This debut is what they are best known for.
Grace Jones: Inside Story – another dollar purchase, super bargain! But not her best.
Doves: Some Cities – I just really like the Here Comes the Fear song. I forget what the rest is like.

Album count 2014: 73
