A Day at the Races

I had never seen a Marx brothers film, so I tried this one.

The humour was quite wacky and weird at times, even by today’s standards let alone 1937. Groucho is the highlight, his actions and humour are just so funny and he doesn’t have to say anything to be funny. The two other brothers, Harpo and Chico were also pretty good and there was one great scene where they played piano like demons and it didn’t appear to be faked.

The story itself was nothing and I got tired of the song and dance routines which I fast forwarded through. The scenes which featured the Marx brothers turned into absolute chaos a couple of times, damn funny. The other actors mostly over-acted a bit.
